The history of Round Table
La prima Round Table fu fondata a Norwich, Inghilterra, nel 1927 da un giovane membro del Norwich Rotary Club per creare un club di giovani uomini d'affari.
95 years of history
The Round Table was founded in 1927 by Louis Marchesi, a young member of the Norwich Rotary Club, who felt there was a need to create a club more suited to the ideas and projects of young career men.
During an industrial conference in Birmingham in 1927, the Prince of Wales encouraged young professionals to get together around a table to adopt and adapt effective working methods and improve them. This encouragement inspired Marchesi who initiated the founding of Round Table.
Within a year of its foundation, the membership of RoundTable grew to 85 members. From an early stage, it was decided that the Round Table would be a non-partisan and non-denominational club, and this characteristic has remained to this day.
A second Round Table was founded in Portsmouth and subsequent growth was rapid, with 125 Tables and a total membership of 4,600 by the outbreak of World War II in 1939.
The Round Table demonstrated international appeal with the founding of the first overseas Table in Copenhagen in 1936. Today, RoundTable thrives in many countries in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the United States.
Round Table is represented in all continents of the world, the first Club in Italy was established in 1958.
